Joining ARTivistUS – a collective to promote socially committed artists
I feel like I am at a crossroads in my musical journey. I have been writing and recording songs with some wonderful musicians for a long time now; I’m ready to extend our reach to new audiences and venues..
But I hate the marketing. I am uncomfortable selling myself and have little interest in social media and promotion in the new world of music. So, when I was approached to join a collective of wonderful, socially committed singer-songwriters to try and harness modern tools to help distinctly traditional folk singers reach a broader audience, I saw it as an opportunity.
I think music can make a difference, but it needs to move out into the world beyond a circle of like-minded friends and family. Joining together to cross-pollinate and bring some actual media savvy to promote folk musicians who have something important to say seems like a powerful idea. I am working with a company called ARTivistUS the brainchild of a wonderful musician and committed activist Chris Owens.Chris has pulled together this group of artists, a plan and a structure, and some real expertise in the areas that we as musicians tend to be least interested and capable in. I feel honored to be part of this project.
