Ride

“giving up to gravity, on the edge of insanity”

Written at Opus Hut in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado this rollicking tune celebrates the weightless abandon of downhill runs, finding the sweet spot between careful and crazy, fear and flow. We arrived just after a snowstorm and skied 4 glorious days of fresh powder. On the last morning I stared out across the valley at our tracks, feeling a deep physical, kinesthetic memory of each run -- the dips and drops, the gullies and pillowed boulders, the narrow chutes and wide open run-outs where we put our skins back on and headed back up. Whether on skis, wheels, or waves, the thrill of speed, the sensation of the earth rolling by, the sense of oneness with the undulating terrain, and the mastery of fear keeps us coming back for more rides.

    by Barry Oreck

I climbed to this peak not knowing what I was looking for
But digging down deep for all of my strength
I stepped over the ridge and stared into the abyss
I knew I had found it and jumped in like this,  I went

    Chorus
Ride ride  ride, ride, ride, ride, down the steeper side
With mountains to climb and rivers to run
Ride, ride, ride, slide, slide, slide, feel the earth rush by
With weightless abandon, free as the wind

Giving up to gravity, on the edge of insanity
With the land rolling under and my body in flight
Connected but free, best version of me
At peace with my trajectory, coming to rest

Ride, ride,  ride, glide, glide, glide, push your fears aside
With mountains to climb and rivers to run
Ride, ride, ride, slide, slide, slide, feel the earth rush by
With weightless abandon, free as the wind

Whenever I’m here in high mountain places
The rat race below is far, far away
The patterns of sky and rock, snow and water
Are my roadmap for wandering and finding my home

Ride ride  ride, glide, glide, glide, on the great divide
With mountains to climb and rivers to run
Ride ride  ride, slide slide slide, feel the earth rush by
With weightless abandon, free as the wind

Grab the wind for a dance
    Be bold, take a chance
Now you’re flying while still on the ground
