A celebration of gravity -- “flying while still on the ground.” The thrill of speed, the sensation of the earth beneath your feet or wheels or boat, the sense of oneness with the undulating terrain, and the mastery of fear as you throw yourself into the void. Written at Opus Hut in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. We arrived just after a snowstorm and after 4 days of skiing fresh powder I stared out across the valley at our tracks. I felt a deep physical, kinesthetic memory of each glorious run -- the dips and drops, the gullies and pillowed boulders, the narrow chutes and wide open run outs where we put our skins back on and headed up for more.
