Hut Trip Lullaby
“it wouldn’t be a real vacation without some sleep deprivation”
Written at Janet’s Cabin (CO) after some long nights of very little sleep. It’s hard enough to sleep at 11,500 feet but in communal sleeping arrangements sometime the loud sleepers are spread out to every room, creating a beam rattling snorchestra. Epic skiing + sleep deprivation made us all a little loopy.

Hut Trip Lullaby – Barry Oreck
You don’t come to the hut to sleep
You live to ski and you love to eat. Uh huh
You wonder how the struggle can be such fun
as you’re standing in the shadow of the setting sun. Uh huh
And we’re tucked in our bags for the night, waiting for the first signs of light. It’s a hut trip lullaby
floating between earth and sky
and you’re dreaming of the turns and the crazy tumbles
as you listen to the creaking and the bed shaking rumbles. Uh huhIt doesn’t matter which hut you inhabit
Janet’s or Estin or Uncle Bud’s Cabin
With dinner’s sitting heavy the eyes are closing
In a couple of minutes you’re sure to be dozing.
But the moon casts an electric glow, off the sparkling hills of untracked snowI need a hut trip lullaby
to calm me down and let me lie
but I’m still dreamin’ of the turns and the crazy tumbles
to carry me above the bed shaking rumblesLiving the good life at 12,000 feet
who has the time for a full 8 hours sleep? It couldn’t be a real vacation
without some sleep deprivation
Body’s exhausted for sleep I’m yearning
but the muscles keep twitching as the skis are turning
This all feels like a dream, but I’m wide awake it seemsWe need a hut trip lullaby
so sweet, so soft it will make you cry
but we’re still dreamin’ of the turns and the crazy tumbles
not listening to the snoring and the bed shaking rumblesDescription text goes here.
