The Solo singer/songwriter life

I love playing with a band. I am utterly hooked on the harmonies, solos, interplay, and the driving force that propels the music into the cosmos. But for me as a songwriter there is something very rewarding about playing the songs as I wrote them — by myself on the guitar. I enter the song without concerns about the parts, the tempos, the blend, will someone forget to come in or will I step on someone’s solo. And for the audience it feels like I am speaking the meaning of the song as clearly and simply as I can. Given how busy my incredible band is this is a good thing. I’m looking forward to a number of upcoming solo gigs — in Manhattan and Brooklyn on Tuesday June 21, in Indian Lake, NY on July 9 and hopefully some other in the North Country this summer. Then I hope to get the band back together in the fall for a few gigs. Until then it’s just me and the songs.
